WE ARE COMMEMORATING THE FOUNDATION AND FORMATION OF MWECS ,21 YEARS AGO
Today April 17,2025, we are commemorating the foundation and formation of MWECS ,21 years ago.
For transforming family tragedy in to opportunity and trying to make a difference at national and international level, we are becoming like rock star of civil society community at national and international stages, invited to several international meetings being conducted in so many countries situated in all six continents to share our experience and show proof positive example on how one family and group of people truly can make a difference, how an organization initiated at the Mathiwos family’s living room, today with more than 35 permanent staffs implementing 10 projects and support 190 cancer patients and their families in a very meaningful ways. For these contributions, we managed to receive five international and 3 national awards including Yebego Sew Award 2016/2024/ one of the most prestigious awards in Ethiopia in 7 years.
Thanks to continued productive leadership of the general assembly, board of directors and management of the secretariat, active and all-round contribution of members, volunteers, staffs, generous support of donors and supporters and the works by government and other stakeholders, we have successfully celebrated our society’s 20th anniversary last year. We are happy to report our society received “Yebego Sew Award 2016/2024/ “one of the most prestigious awards of its kind in Ethiopia for its charity award and extraordinary contribution intended to challenge the growing NCDs in general and cancer in particular.
We would like to thank all involved and participated for their tireless advocacy in the lead up to this historical stage. This process has highlighted once again the enormous power of a united NCDs control community. From the global to local level, we have united behind a common strategy and made our voices heard loud and clear. We must continue our united effort and commitment and will not rest until we have quality health services for those living with NCDs, and until measures are in place to stop the increase in new cases. Together, we are moving into a new era for global NCDs control and more than ever before we are certain, together we can challenge the growing burden of NCDs and can make a difference!
Looking forward to working with you in our joint effort intended to save lives of our people from needlessly affected, dying from partially preventable, treatable non-communicable diseases, contribute our fair share in transforming Ethiopia into a better place to live and work.
