Over the years, Mathiwos Wondu Foundation has been honored for its contribution to cancer care, humanitarian service, health advocacy, and community development.

Bego Sew Humanitarian Award

Mathiwos  Wondu Foundation has been recognized by the  12th Bego Sew Humanitarian Award The award ceremony was attended by Ethiopian President her Excellency Sahlework Zewde, and a number of respected guests. The Bego Sew Humanitarian Award is an annual program dedicated to honoring individuals of noble character and inspiring the cultivation of goodness in others. It recognizes achievement in arrange of categories such as social responsibility, education, science and technology, arts, philanthropy, business and entrepreneurship, effective fulfillment of responsibility by governmental institutions, heritage culture and tourism, social studies, media and journalism. During the 2016 E.C ceremony 32 institutions and individuals were recognized under 11 categories. One of them was Mathiwos Wondu Foundation. Our foundation received recognition under the philanthropic sector category for its contribution in supporting cancer patients and their families over the years. Mrs. Mizan Wondu, Mr Wondu Bekele daughter, received the award on behalf of Mr. Wondu. During the ceremony she delivered a speech and thanked the organizers indicating in the past 20 years, the society has fought cancer and is now expanding to fight broader non-communicable diseases and their risk factors. She also requested concerted support for the success of the visionary “Healthy Africa” project. Meanwhile, she thanked the board members, staff, cancer patients and their families, and volunteers for their continued effort in making the foundation a success.

World No Tobacco Day Award

World No Tobacco Day Award, Mr. Wondu Bekele, Executive Director of MWECS, nominated as one of the six recipients of World Health Organization World No Tobacco Day Award 2020 from Africa Region.

By implementing organizational reforms based on technical support provided by USAID LCD team in the areas of financial management, project management, monitoring and evaluation and sustainability, MWF was awarded a Certificate of Achievement as Center of Excellence capable of implementing big projects by the USAID LCD team.

Outstanding Contribution Certificate

MWF received a certificate of recognition from the Ethiopian Thoracic Society (ETS) on February 2, 2023, for its outstanding contribution to the successful implementation of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine program in Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences.

Golden Jubilee/50 years/Good Practice Award

MWF’s project on tobacco was selected as one of five best practices among projects by Consortium of Christian Relief and Development Association (CCRDA) in June 15, 2023. Dr. Yetnayet Abebe, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Mathiwos Wondu Foundation received this prestigious award on behalf of our foundation from Dr. Lia Tadesse, Minister of Health, and Guest of Honor. CCRDA has more than 456 members of which 346 are local and 110 international NGOs, celebrated its Golden Jubilee with a series of events with the objectives of celebrating half a century of successful journey, with a candid intention of learning from the critical challenges faced during the journey.
