Mathiwos Wondu – YeEthiopia Cancer Society (MWECS) is proud to be working in close partnership with Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH) and Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) to implement the International Early Lung and Cardiac Action Program (I-ELCAP) — with generous technical and financial support from the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation (BMSF).
This vital initiative focuses on early detection and prevention of lung cancer, using low-dose CT screening and standardized, multidisciplinary protocols to improve diagnosis and outcomes for our communities.
Following a successful program launch at TASH in April, a second workshop was held at SPHMMC on June 30, 2025, to expand the initiative and align on advanced, evidence-based screening protocols.
So far, 12 eligible participants have been enrolled, with 120 more scheduled for LDCT screenings at TASH in the coming weeks — a promising step forward in early detection efforts.
MWECS remains committed to supporting national lung cancer screening programs and improving access to life-saving diagnostics for all Ethiopians.
Early detection saves lives — and collaboration makes it possible.
