The Matiwos Wondu Foundation organized a kickoff session aimed at establishing a collaborative platform that supports the prevention of non-communicable diseases.

On December 9, 2025, the Mathiwos Wondu Foundation convened prominent public figures, civil society organizations, Associations, and NCD survivors to orient the need to establish a collaborative coalition supporting government efforts to reduce the growing burden of NCDs. During the event, higher officials including Dr. Nigusu Legesse, Executive Director of CCRDA, acknowledged and commended MWF’s impactful work, while Mr. Wondu Bekele, Founder and Executive Director of MWF, expressed gratitude to partners and emphasized the heavy economic toll of NCDs and the urgent need for prevention-focused interventions.

The Foundation outlined the coalition’s importance and purpose, with Program Director Mr. Zelalem Mengistu explaining that members will operate under a guiding term of reference to raise public awareness, support policy development, and strengthen multisectoral action for NCD prevention.

Participants highlighted the importance and timeliness of the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated action. The coalition will continue meeting regularly to implement its work plan, building on MWF’s strong track record of facilitating effective partnerships that have produced meaningful results in the past.
