160+ experts from 30 countries gathered in Dublin for the Bloomberg Initiative Grantees’ Meeting!

On June 26, 2025, the Bloomberg Initiative global grantees’ meeting was held at the Dublin Conference Center, organized collaboratively by Vital Strategies and CTFK. The event brought together over 160 participants from 30 countries. The meeting featured presentations showcasing the achievements of the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use Grants Program over the past 18 years.

It was announced that 20 million USD funding pledged by Michael Bloomberg will be allocated to countries that have not yet implemented any of the MPOWER strategies, as well as to those that have successfully implemented five out of the six strategies. Selected countries’ delegates shared their best experiences on implementing MPOWER strategies, specifically country-specific progress and challenges related to tobacco taxation, smoke-free environments, and tobacco industry interference.

An interactive ‘World Café’ session focused on key themes identified through a partner survey, fostering deeper reflection and exchange among grantees. MWECS shared its extensive experience in successfully persuading policymakers, sustaining enforcement measures, coalition building, and maintaining coordination efforts, as well as insights into Ethiopia’s legal framework for preventing and controlling heated tobacco products. The meeting concluded with a fireside chat featuring impactful stories from delegates from Pakistan and Indonesia, moderated by Kelly Larson of Bloomberg Philanthropies.
