MWECS Joins the Global Health Workforce Partnership Program to Strengthen NCD and Mental Health Capacity in Ethiopia
The Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society (MWECS) is proud to announce its participation in the newly launched Global Health Workforce Partnership Program, officially inaugurated on March 2025 in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, State Minister of Health.
This groundbreaking initiative is funded by the UK Department of Health and Social Care and managed by Global Health Partnerships (formerly THET). It aims to support the development of a resilient and skilled health workforce across Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Malawi, and Somaliland through global collaboration and shared expertise.

MWECS has been selected as one of the program’s grant awardees and will implement the project in partnership with Nottingham University Hospitals. The focus of the initiative is to strengthen the capacity of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accreditors and providers in the critical areas of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health.

The project will be implemented in five regions and two city administrations in close coordination with the Ministry of Health and regional health bureaus. By addressing pressing health challenges such as NCDs and mental health, the program seeks to equip Ethiopia’s health workforce with the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality care and improve health outcomes.

MWECS extends its sincere gratitude to Global Health Partnerships, Nottingham University Hospitals, and the Ministry of Health for their trust and partnership. We are committed to making a meaningful contribution to the health sector through this impactful collaboration.
