The day Mathiwos Wondu passed away observed by a variety of events.
Mathiwos is the third and last child of Mr. Wondu Bekele and Mrs. Amsale Beyene , was born on June 9, 1991 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He was diagnosed with blood cancer just after celebrating his second birthday. He had been receiving intensive care and support for 26 months at the Black Lion Specialized Hospital. Despite the best efforts of his family and medical professionals, Mathiwos lost his battle with cancer and he passed away on September 23, 2004 at a young age of four years.
Today, a memorial service was held at the Phangisile Psychosocial Support Center in the presence of Mathiwos Wondu -Ye Ethiopia Cancer Society staffs,cancer patients and their families,volunteers and invited guests.
On the occasion, members of the Ja Jazz group served lunch for cancer patients and their families at the center, as well as for the invitees and staffs of Care Epilepsy center .
Mathiwos family also observed the day by visiting his graveyard,praying and lit candle at Bole St.Michael Church lit candles.
